Method:
- Slice off pieces of sweet (or regular) potato with a cheese slicer or mandolin (BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT YOURSELF!).
- Spray a plate lightly with oil and then spray the chips lightly as well, if desired. Salt optional.
- Cook in microwave on ‘high’ for 60 seconds.
- Stop and turn each chip over and put it on a different spot on the plate (there are hot spots in microwaves, so rearrange them well).
- Cook on high for 45 seconds. Repeat the flipping and rearranging.
- Cook for 30 seconds and keep repeating this process until you have your desired darkness.
I always slice a couple of extra chips as I know that two of them always seem to get burned to a crisp (though the truth is that I eat them anyway).
| Don't let the burnt chips scare you ...you can toss them. Plus, I'm sure you don't multitask in the kitchen like I do, right? |
This is my dip of choice: a love child of ketchup and chipotle sauce. I have no idea where I got it as it’s years old by now. But one someone I follow on Instagram - can't remember who - suggested mixing chipotle sauce and ketchup for future enjoyment...GENIUS!
Other thoughts for dipping: ranch dressing, tahini, tahini mixed with white balsamic vinegar (one of my favorite home-made salad dressings), blue cheese dressing, blue cheese mixed with balsamic vinegar (SOooo good! Try it!). The list goes on and on for delicious dips for your chips.
Note that even the non-dark chips become crispy if you give them a few minutes to settle on the countertop. These chips are delicious and ready in minutes.
I’m certain that these could be made in the oven under a watchful, non-multitasking, patient eye or two.
Q: What is your favorite microwave recipe? Are you a multi-tasker or a single-tasker? What is your favorite dip or dressing?

I need that cutter!! these look great.
i have been lazy in the kitchen too, thank goodness for microwaves.
xoxo
Michelle
Wow that cutter! It's the kind of gadget that I would be flipping over to buy, but only use once or twice because I'm even lazier than you in the kitchen, Deb. I haven't cooked for months, unless you count the toaster and microwave.
Michelle & Sophia...I should have been more clear- that is a cheese slicer! :-O
i'll put anything in the microwave at try it at least once, burnt and all. hmmm, maybe thats why my gut has problems. haha. JK.
great recipe!
I have used the microwave like that to make chips out of corn tortillas (lazy and impatient) but have not done these! I may try these today - but I will probably sprinkle mine with sweetener and cinnamon.
I used to love BBQ sauce mixed with Ranch dressing - always a favorite sauce for fried pickles ;). But I love Frenchs spicy brown mustard/salsa as a dip too. I just love mustard!
I also like the microwave to toast nuts - easy and quick. Fave micro recipe? Duh, your protein muffin!!!
Missy (multitasker even though I shouldn't be since I'll forget what I was doing!)
why am i not following the chipotle ketchuper on instagram. i feel like when you find out who that person is you need to tell me and my life will change for the better
I am a total multi-tasker so you'd think I love my microwave, right? But it scares me. Mostly because it burns things like carrots and broccoli and I don't understand that??
Happy Valentine's Day Deb! Hope you have a wonderful one.
What a great idea, Debs! As soon as I welcome vegetables back into my life, I will be all over this ;)
It kind of reminds me of this recipe I've seen floating around on Pinterest for coffee cake in the microwave that is a single serving (in a mug). I want to try that one too.
I think you know this, but I am totally obsessed with ketchup. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best multitasking condiment ;)
That's the coolest slicer!! I love dipping my sweet potatoes in ketchup mixed with curry powder. In holland there have a curry ketchup that has always been my favorite, so I try to recreate it at home.
Thanks for the simple recipe! Simple and quick is always a plus.
Yummy they look delish x x
you and eden are both microwave queens! i love it!
Ketchup and chipolte?!?!? Hello!!!!!! That's sounds so good! I miss having room in my fridge for "luxuries" like dips. I'm far from a microwave expert. I would have thought the microwave would have made them mushy! Good to know otherwise!
Ohhh...yum! I use my microwave for everything since I turned off the circuit breaker to my oven since I never use it (lowering my carbon footprint!) so these look great. Probably could do a bunch of different veggie "chips" this way??? Wonder if it could work without the oil?
Chipotle/ketchup...what a dream (: I've had curry ketchup and a hot sauce version that was also good. There's a smoked chipotle tabasco sauce too that's yummy. I'm all about mustard and ketchup mixed.
Plus I actually like burnt things...yeh, weirdo here (:
Natasha
Ohh! microwave chips!! I love it! I am such a big fan of sweet potatoes in any form.
I bought a mandolin slicer last summer and cut my finger up the first time I've used it. I've used it a few times since, and just totally suck at it. Is there some sort of art to master? I feel like i just do it all wrong! (Maybe I'm just special :))
Jenn- yesterday I added chipotle POWDER to ketchup and it was divine (one less bottle to have around!)
Heather, Natasha and Missy- mmm love your ideas for mixing spices/sauces- I'll be trying them.
Julie- it might have been kissmybroccoli? she's clever.
Natasha- I think veggie chips would work if they are carby enough. Yesterday I tried kabocha and it was chewy not crispy.
Lauren- your mandolin SHOULD have come with a 'holder' that pierces the veggie/fruit and blocks your hand from getting near the blade- it's SUPER important to use this if it came with it. Otherwise, just be super careful and stop when the veg becomes too small.
I'll have to try this very soon! I used to make potato chips in the oven, but it's so hard to stay focused! :) I blame the kid for distracting me most of the time (well, at least 51% of the time...).
And I LOVE ketchup!!! Actually making my own ketchup has been on my list forever!
i have a pampered chef microwave chip maker that makes AHMAZING sweet potato and apple chips! our microwave blew a fuse one time and we without it for awhile.. you learn how much you rely on the microwave!
I need that cutter!! these looking very interesting.
