Giveaways are a funny phenomenon. I witnessed a popular blogger host a wonderful giveaway for a jar of high-end store-bought nut butter and she got about 800 hundred entries.
Awesome.
Simultaneously, I held a contest where I made an array of nut butters from scratch (with a mortar and pestle of course...kidding!) and I got 17 entries. Is it because I'm not opinionated enough or have a sparkly personality? Or because I have an annoying habit of blogging about my cat? Or because I leave the blog unattended for days at a time- just leaving out food, water, and a litter box? (no. wait. there's the darned cat again).
NO! I only got 17 contest entries for my Good, Bad & Funny Photo contest because I asked these brave souls to send me embarrassing photos of themselves that I promised to post on the internet! So easy, so fun, such a deal! Who can turn that down? Um, I guess about 783 people. Well, I'm thrilled to have hosted it and I had a lot of fun and many laughs. I hope that you enjoy the resulting four-part photo series. Just think, if all of the other 783 people joined in, this would be a 195.75-part series. Gah!
By the way, Tamzin from Salad and Sequins, was the big winner who was picked arbitrarily by me folding up all of the contestants' bad photos and giving them a spin with the blades of my Vitamix. Then I closed my eyes and picked the winning photo. Yet in my eyes, all 17 people were winners... so I'm high-fivin' these gals as we speak, cyberspacially speaking.
For this short photo series, I asked everyone to give me a little introduction of themselves as well as captions for the photos. So sit back, relax and enjoy meeting Lindsay, Mallory, Ashley & Marianne.

About Me's... I hate these.. um, well I'm a 20-something grad student in rural Wisconsin. I'm not a blogger, just a lurker.. I mean, reader. I thoroughly enjoy nut butters (shocking, I know), the occasional yoga sesh, cooking and baking of all sorts, and having bloggers post my embarrassing photos on the internet to gain entries for nut butter giveaways.

Howdy fellow Bloggies! I'm Ash (or Ashley if you prefer) and it's an absolute pleasure to be featured on The Great Smoothie Girl's blog! That being said please don't judge my incredibly neglected blog too harshly as I'm a terrible blog mama. Anyways, I grew up in a small farming community located a hour south of Chicago and I currently live in a notso nice suburb about 30 minutes from the Windy City with my significant other and our two furbabies, Dutch the Collie and Trixie the Pitmix. I am a huge fan of healthy living blogs and with their help have recently lost 40 lbs (and counting). Let me take this opportunity to thank all those lovely and inspiring Bloggies out there; THANK YOU!

A little bit about my self- I am 33, married to a fish biologist. I am a runner, gym junkie, foodie, biology/science nerd, that is currently unemployed therefore I have tons of time to read blogs and play in the kitchen. I probably spend way too much time exercising and playing with my pets (two dogs, a cat, and a turtle) than I do looking for a job (shh, don't tell!!). It's quite frustrating really trying to find a job in this town. I have two degrees (wildlife science and a master's in tree physiology) and the jobs are pretty limited in my fields in my local area. I used to work doing research in tree physiology until the funding/grant money dried up. Let's just say, during a recession not much money goes into research in tree physiology...although it should but then again I don't rule the world....hhhmmm, maybe I could plan to takeover the world in my spare/unemployed time....nope, that would probably require $$$. So currently, I am contemplating going back to school or waiting tables (not really!). That's my story for now.

Q: Do you immediately delete bad photos (like our friend Lindsay??) or do you keep them just for yuks? Do you save bad photos of other people for future blackmailing purposes?

Omigosh, is it too late to enter?! I want to go find some truly horrid pictures of myself now...I usually delete, but I have a few winners :) This made my day!
Mama Pea and anyone- It's never too late to enter with horrfyingly bad and hilarious photos (no prize though, sigh- that's been gobbled up by miss Tamzin over in England). I loved putting the series together, so if I get more entries, I'll put more posts together. :-)
These are hilarious! Just made my Saturday- thanks!
Yayyyy!!! So happy to see all the photos :D I always thought I was the type of person who kept every bad photo, but I've been noticing that a lot of them have disappeared. Must have been my evil twin sister...
Haha, I love it!! But I'm one of those un-brave souls that was too scared to enter! haha!
Haha i LOVE these!! this is hilarious!! Great idea girl!
Great idea Deb.
Good to meet you all.
Clearly you only have beautiful readers. Those photos weren't NEARLY bad enough.
Allie= um, yeah. Quite frankly you are the only person who sent in truly ghastly photos of yourself- bless your sweet little protein-pimped heart. I really feel like I need to take out an ad on CNN for the day that yours is to debut. You must admit, mine are pretty bad too. But I'll take the compliment anyway: YES, my readers are gorgeous :-) And my de-lurkers and my lurkers!
Great post! And I agree, the "bad photos" are really not bad! I have plenty of truly bad photos of myself, but now I'm thinking I should probably delete them... Hubby always complains that I only look at myself when I select family photos for something (which is sort of true). He also complains about the unflattering pics I have posted of him on my blog recently. I fear it may be payback time soon... Better start deleting (or at least hiding) some pics... :)
your readers are officially the prettiest readers on the 'net, Deb!
What a bunch of hotties and if they think any of these pics are bad, let me show you new motherhood, lack of sleep, shower, milk stains eveywhere w/ baby spit up...yeah, those are delete instantly!
As for your question, I am doing bikini competitions. That's the equivalent of Featherweight class in wrestling :) It goes bikini, fitness (which this group also does "routine"), then figure, then bodybuilder.
I'll be injecting my steroids any day now and you will think I turned into The Arnold. kidding!!!!!!!
xox
These are so great, Deb! I'm discovering new bloggers, too! (This is both good and bad...good because they really look awesome and fun, bad because I am already behind on the blogs I read!).
Ok, and Lindsay....that does NOT count as a bad photo, dearie. Sorry. Even in bad lighting, you are still gorgeous.
I delete bad photos too. Somehow though, they always turn up somewhere despite my best efforts!
Yeah I don't get it either Deb. I reaaally wanted to win your goods! (Ya know, in comparison to a jar of Artisana.) But regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed your sample nut butters, one got crumbled on a bowl of oats and one half (of the mole, the other half I still have!) went into a protein ice cream via the magic bullet. Nom. No RA police has gotten me yet! Yahoo!
Other than that, I really enjoyed this post. And the captions- these girls are clever! I especially liked the one that is just a reader! I want to see more readers in blog land!
Hope you are suuuuper di duper well Miss Deb. My mom tells me you guys "e-mail" now. I was like whaaa?? She seemed pretty proud of herself. :)
Oh these were awesome!! Mallory's sun burn is going to give me shivers for days though. YEOWCH! As for the giveaway, I reallyreallyreally wanted to enter but I kinda feel like I get so much free stuff from my blog that I ought'nt enter other people's giveaways. Don't want to seem hoggy, you know? BUT - if you ever want me to e-mail you bad pictures of myself for FUN, then say the word and I'll flood your inbox;)
That sunburn picture has chilled (err burned) me to my soul.
*shudders*
I love that first picture of you!!! Funny!!!
Yikes that sunburn on Mallory makes me want to cry or live in a bath of aloe vera for a week. YEEEEOWCH!!!
@Jenn
... it made me want to bathe in aloe vera too :)
worst. burn. of my life.
and i even had sunblock on too!
What a fun and funny photo series!
I admit to being a photo deleter, but luckily I had some good ones saved for your giveaway Deb. I loved looking at everyone pictures...Marianne's marathon photo had me laughing out loud. Needed that this morning! :)
Oh man. If you do another round of these, let me know. I always have plenty of awful outtakes from my day.
