Saturday/Sunday Smoothie: Maple Madness

My BFF/Frenemy/Twin Separated at birth except that she's a foot taller and looks like a supermodel/archrival / fellow smoothieholic, Allie over at Pimp my Protein Shake came up with THE. BEST. SHAKE. She calls it the Maple Cream Protein Shake. Nom.

Truth be known, I made this bad boy about 5 times this week- one day I had it twice in the same day.

So, in true sisterly fashion, I decided to just steal from her and claim it to be my own. I never had a sister, so this is my big chance. Indulge me.

Me & Allie aka the Pimpest Pimp of Smoothies, ever

I scored these stickers at the $1 Store in Banff Springs, Canada. Woot! I Heart Stickers. Yes, I know I'm too old for that, but I can't help myself.

The Lineup (I made protein Ice cream...in other words a ton of ice with a good amount of the gums):

  • Ice Ice baby ~ 1.5+ cups
  • Water ~ 1.5 cups
  • Vanilla Protein Powder- one scoop
  • Stevia (what I used) or other sweetener (Maple butter or Maple Sugar anyone?)
  • Good sprinkle of xanthan and guar gums
  • Maple Extract- few drops
  • Rum Extract - few drops (just because- it's not Canadian. I just like the taste)
  • Butter Extract (not pictured, but my new fave 'extra' to almost all of my smoothies)

If you don't like stevia or Splenda or chemicals or weird stuff, try one of these amazingly maple-y sweeteners. Well, not if you are diabetic.

This is Maple Butter- I found it at a health food store. It was expensive. It is like crack. It's pure sugar, somehow made into a creamy, buttery consistency. Be warned.

Maple Madness Protein Ice cream being born. I felt compelled to hold the Canadian stickers behind the blender

This is why I ate this twice in one day. Just sayin'

This is the bounty from ONE RECIPE. Guesstimate: 150 cals without any add-ins. Feel free to have some fruit on the side, or top with granola and eat with an almond-butter smooshed spoon.

Janetha Bean (not her real name) over at Meals & Moves asked peeps to send her Smoothie 'Stache photos (ie a Smoothie Mustache)...well you know I had to get on that pronto...

For more photos and a recap of what two (actually Three!) like-minded Smoothie Sisters get up to in two half-days, check back next week- I'll have a post about my fantastic whirlwind 24-hours with Allie from Pimp my Protein shake! Hint: can you say Pantry Raid?

With an R people. With an R. Sheesh, minds in the gutters.

Well, actually... come to think of it there was a Panty Raid too...but more about that next week! That'll keep ya in suspense. TTFN.

Q: Do you like Maple Syrup or the flavor of maple? If so, I beg of you to run, don't walk to your blender and make this smoothie (or Allie's version) now! Have you been to Canada and do you heart it like I do?

Ah, like being suckled from a Canadian maple tree!

I am growing out my smoothie stache into a long handlebar,in the style of a henchman who ties hapless maidens to train tracks (and then feeds her Krispy Kreme).

Maple BUTTER?! I didn't even know that existed, but it sounds like the joining of forces between two wonderful foods :) I have never been to Canada, but buying some maple butter seems like reason enough for me. We should have checked for it in the Canada section of the food show!
Love the sexy 'stache ;)

Deb,
I was totally drooling over Allie's version, and now I'm drooling over yours. My dad grew up in Maine on the Canadian border and loves all things maple...a trait I definitely inherited. I will be trying this smoothie soon, and I have got to find my dad some of that maple butter. He would love, and I need to find myself some butter extract!

when you run out of maple leaf stickers, I will be sure to send you more! hahah

those look amazing! I used my gums for the first time today and couldn't believe the difference. I think I used too much for my little magic bullet smoothie, it turned into a pudding almost, but it was heavenly!

You rock!

haha so many things to say. first off thank you for pointing out that it is not my real name, although i may have to legally change it because i like it so much. second, when you wrote "It was expensive. It is like crack" i read "it is expensive, like crack" and i was like hum deb sure know her crack prices! i NEED to make this because i do love maple, mighty maple is probably my fave PB of all time. i gotta snag a few ingredients but this should be on my menu this week. and yes i have been to canada, for maybe a total of 18 hours. got deported. blah.

"# Maple Extract- few drops
# Rum Extract - few drops (just because- it's not Canadian. I just like the taste)
# Butter Extract (not pictured, but my new fave 'extra' to almost all of my smoothies)"-

ALL of that...is just music to my ears. Just yesterday i left a comment on jessica of how sweet's blog re her bailey's brownies. I told her i used to guzzle buttery nipple shots. Baileys + Butterscotch Schnapps. Basically this is along that same wavelength...and ilove it!

My grandmas used to make homemade maple butter. My dad (and me to a lesser extent) were raised on it.

Deesert Protein, another jessica thing andi know you...i want to try it..i really should not have whey though. sigh.

xxoxo

Never been to Canada, but I do love maple syrup, but only the real thing, none of that "maple-flavored syrup" stuff. ;-)

Oh man - I love maple butter. I currently have a teeny tiny jar of maple pecan honey butter. OMG this stuff is good and dangerous!

'Kay, so here in Canada we have these things called "sugar bushes." Every "spring" (although, I technically call it late winter) maple syrup producers will host visitors and there will be a day of maple-related activities. The best is when they pour the sap on snow and you eat it like a snow cone. There is also maple candy, butter, fudge, etc. You can also have a maple feast with pancakes and baked beans. It's seriously awesome.

Aaaanyways. Yeah, I'm a stereotype, I love maple ;)

I made this shake after seeing it on Allie's site. It's AMAZING! Even my fiance liked it, and he's a beef eating Texan. I just wish I had a vita mix now! The bullet is just so sad to listen to when it's working through those gums!

I also added some shiritaki from the Asian market here in Denver and it puffed it to the perfect consistency. ( I have a thin protein powder).

Thanks!

I LOVE all maple stuff. Still blenderless though. And you are never too old for stickers, don't worry :)
