OK Here we go again. Another mistake that somehow righted itself. I really do get lucky sometimes with recipes!
This smoothie started life as the Straight Ahead sMoooothie. Get it? Cow. Moo. sMoooothie? ha ha. yeah, well the first time I did it, I LOVED it- it was so simple- Milk, gums, stevia ice. Boom. The oldest and simplest smoothie on the planet. Laura Ingalls Wilder probably made this smoothie. Here are the ingredients:
- 1.5 cups milk
- Stevia or other sweetener
- Xanthan Gum & Guar Gum to desired consistency
- Ice
- Water if needed to thin
So pure and so refreshing... And look at how much smoothie was produced- holy moly... no way to finish that in one sitting!
Well, the second time I did it, I was very wildly unenthusiastic. It was just 'meh' as we love to say in the blogging world. Meh. I wasn't in the mood for meh. So I decided to tweak. I added one of my new favorite finds:
I was too lazy to re-dirty my Vitamix as I had already washed it, so I just stirred about a tablespoon and a half (15 cals!!) into it. Then dusted a bit more on top:
I'm certain that this can be made with any other milks for those bleeps with milk sensitivites. I bet Almond Cookies & Creme would be yummy! If I had thought about it I might even crumble part of a chocolate cookie on top...mmmm!
Q: Vanilla person? Chocolate person? or Yes please and thankyou?

SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!!! Love the colors too :)
I'm DEFINITELY a chocoholic.
Was a chocolate girl but had to give up all things caffeine...doctors orders. I actually feel better now without the caffeine, not the chocolate!! So now I am experimenting with Carob! Hardest part was giving away all my dark chocolate bars :-( and stopping my daily coffee...decaf just isn't the same.
I love cookies and creme! (And why isn't it "cream"?) Whatever. If it's soft serve ice cream, I like chocolate/vanilla twist with sprinkles (best of both worlds, and sprinkles do make everything better.)
Love the cookies and creme, a great way to get to both vanilla and chocolate. YUM. We are both chocolate lovers, although Michelle prefers vanilla cakes.
"Sprinkles make everything yummy"--yes!
And so does that Sp. Dark. Love that stuff. Look up my post on Guiltless Vegan Hot Cocoa. Water, that stuff, stevia or agave, microwave, done. About 50 cals or less no doubt.
The cookies n creme action...NICE that looks so good.
Thx for the non commenting permission :) I may or may not take you up on it, we shall see how things shake out.
:)
That's even kid friendly! I'm a vanilla girl with a swirl of chocolate plus some crunch. With a side of cookies...
Carob and cream next?
My mother would absolutely adore this smoothie! For as long as I can remember she's loved cookies & creme. I was always a vanilla girl, but now I've turned into a chocolate woman! My tastebuds have completely changed in my 26.5 years!!
Cookies and cream - YUM and I am definately a chocolate girl!
i think this is the cutest smoothie to date. the one with the sprinkles. but i hate sprinkles. but i love the one with just the milk.. hmm i wonder if i would find it meh? because i am in love with just vanilla ice cream over any other ice cream. i am for sure a vanilla person 110% but the c&c one looks good too :) i havent had breakfast so who am i kidding, the raisin bread on emily's blog almost looked good too. you cant trust my judgment when i am this hungry. and yes it is 48 minutes to noon and i am still thinking about breakfast. hmmm ok sorry for rambling, must be the cold meds. love you! stay warm!!
Vanilla and chocolate all mixed up together!
Smoothie looks so good, I just got a new smoothie maker, proteins and the lot after your inspiring me x x
That last picture makes my mouth water....yum. I love the cookies and cream Spirutein (tastes like an oreo McFlurry) so I'm sure this would be just as wonderful.
You seriously need to open a place and call it "Smoothie Queen." You really are!!!
Oh, that one gets me right where I live.
Can't do it. But maybe on a special occasion, I would just go wild.
I agree with Hayley that you are the Smoothie Queen.
Can smoothies be frozen and packaged?
HMMMMM
WOWO that smoothie looks so great! where do you find that gum stuff?
Hey Deb. I have a question. What does the "gums" do for the smoothies? Whdy do you use them? Do they add any flavor or is it just for consistency. Are they natural/do they have calories?
I tried reading up on it but got confused with all the scientific terms. Thanks for any insight you might have!
I still haven't got off my bum and bought any gums yet but one of my fave (and so simple I am ashamed to type it on this site) is milk and frozen peaches so I can see how this one would be really yummy.
PS> That last pic in the bowl? Looks like art!!
The one in the bowl looks so delish! I love chocolate anything, add some PB to that and I am in heaven!
Hey folks- newbies and oldies alike!
KTB and JQ: In answer to your Q's about the gums, I'm going to write another post about it- yes they have calories (20-30 per Tablespoon and you would only use 1/8-1/4 of a TEASPOON). You can buy them at online and at health food stores. They add thickness and creaminess but no flavor. Please see my old post about it here:

I'm a chocoholic, definitely. In almost all solid forms of food/desserts- chocolate is the way to go.
But actually, as far as smoothies, shakes, ice cream, fro yo, custard, gelatoo, yogurt, (i.e. the best foods ever) I'm a vanilla person. You can add so much to vanilla, and it tastes good plain too.
I realized you AND Allie almost never make fruit smoothies, which in most cases- those are like the only smoothies; but for the volume, and the calories you both have going on, I don't think I'll ever use fruit in a protein shake/smoothie ever again. (My acai bowls are a different story- thats all fruit, no protein) But I'm going to try and add lots of volume/flavor to my smoothies now. And try more SGET recipes! Starting with your pumpkin pie in a bowl this afternoon. :)
CHOCOLATE, and oh my gosh, that bowl at the end or your post looks amazing Deb.
I could totally finish off those two glasses filled with smoothie in one sitting. Oh yes, I could. :)
I may be missing something, but did you announce who one the nut butters? I've been looking but with no luck--I'm very exicted to see (it doesn't take much to make me happy:)
Whenever I see sprinkles, I think of you! Isn't that romantic? Hehe.
From your tweets today it sounds like you are stressed. I'm so sorry. Seems like this is a rough month for a lot of people! :/
HUGS!
Yum!!!!!! I do love my chocolate but I think im a vanilla girl. Its a close tie though. But give me vanilla bean anything and Im in! Looks fabulous!
Beeks- HUH?! My fave go-to smoothie is my PB&J with raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries!! I guess I don't post about it because it would be like announcing that I breath air. :-)
THinny- thanks- yeah- nuts- got back from the artic circle to find we have no phone and no DSL! GAH- no posting! No reading. I'm up to 395858 in reader and I'll never catch up!!
