Smoothie Saturday/Sunday- The Guava Shake

You can see the green guava specks- yum!


This was surprisingly easy and sooooo flavorful...IF you like the unique flavor of guava. I realize that guava is an acquired taste, but if you like it- this shake is for you.

Personally I have no trouble with the seeds- they are VERY VERY hard, but small. I like a little crunch in my smoothies, but if you don't, then seed your guavas and use twice many.



Here are the ingredients & rough amounts:

Water ~a cup
Ice ~a cup
Xanthan Gum-very small sprinkle
Guar Gum- small sprinkle
A Guava (or two if you are seeding them)
Scoop vanilla protein powder
Few drops vanilla extract
Few sprinkles vanilla sugar-free, fat-free pudding


Oops, it looks like someone's tongue has already begun to clean the blade attachment. One day I'll give myself an inadvertent tongue-ectomy. But it'll be sooo worth it!

It looks icy as it's being poured, right? Fear not and have faith- it magically becomes creamy again due to the properties of the gums.


Getting creamier already


The finished product... smooth and creamy. Eat it with a spoon.

Some topping ideas: coconut, chopped pistachios, chunks of guava or other tropical fruit. I actually had some raspberries and pistachios on top and it was wonderful. You could eat it with a nut butter on your spoon- or better yet... COCONUT butter- mmmm that would be delish!

If anyone tries this, let me know. I'm always up for suggestions!

Mmmm...I wish I had been able to lick the blender! How is the MRM vanilla? I have the chocolate and it's good but as sweet as i'd like.

i cannot get XG and GG right without turning it into gelly slop. Sorry but you get a mental pic from those words of what I create :)

redhead75= MRM is GOOD. I got it (why else?) because it was on sale at Clarks, my fave health food store and I love the flavah.

Averie- I'm so sorry you've got gum problemos. My gut feeling is that you're using too much. Perhaps one day when I go high tech I'll do a vid. Til then back way the heck off the xg. and start really slowly. I want you to go to smoothie heaven!

Don't like guava and can't have seeds, but oh, it's tempting.

It must have taken a long time to get that technique down. I'm awing, as "in awe".

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that you don't seed your guava. That's fierce. Sadly, I live about 50 billion miles from a guava tree. BUT I shall be in San Diego for T-Day and will hook myself up with a guava shake.

You know, I don't think I've ever eaten a guava. I've had guava flavored things, but never bought one. I want to find one now.

Deb, I have perfected my Vita-Mix ice-cream. One cup nut milk, one scoop protein powder, stevia, 2 big handfuls of ice, 1/2 tsp GG, and almost as much XG, but not quite 1/2 tsp. I don't think I was using enough of the gums before. I love it so much - my new favorite thing. Seriously, you changed my life. :)

Allie- We were temporarily separated but shall be reunited within a day or so :-)

Heab- wow the ice cream sounds amazing and I'm so glad the gums are life-altering :-) I'm really truly gonna ask santa for an ice cream maker. I doubt I'll ever eat solid foods again after that.
