Well, I am one lucky duck who gets to go on vacay for a week or two. We will sail (well, there are no sails involved in a ship that houses thousands of people) ...we will motor across the Atlantic from NYC to Southampton and then spend a few days in the English countryside. I can't wait! It's the 3 musketeers: Dad, the Hubby and me. We always have such a great time and travel really well together.
Meanwhile, some of my wonderful friends and family have so graciously agreed to guest blog while I'm away and I'm very excited about it! I've got some of the rockin'est folks out there sharing their wisdom with my beloved SGET readers - bloggers, non-bloggers, women, men (well, man)... a really cool and varied group of peeps. I asked everyone to give 3 of the best pieces of advice they have received, plus a favorite recipe. I hope that you will enjoy reading the posts as much as have loved organizing them for publishing...they are super!
Due to the CRAPLICIOUS unpredictability of Blogger (I know, I know, I've tried WordPress and I just can't do it), I will be attempting to publish my FABULOUS guest Bloggers' posts from the open seas. If you should happen to read about a woman who jumped to her untimely death in the icy Atlantic due to a Blogger malfunction, there's a good possibility that it's Smoothie Girl.
Now in honor of Flashback Fridays a couple of days early, here is a sampling of what kind of shenanigans we get up to when we're traveling by ship...
Finally, HUGE SMOOTHIE-GIRL NEWS!!
I'm not bringing my Back to Basics Blender. No really, it's Alert-CNN-time. Hubby can vouch. In the last 2 or 3 years I have dragged that blender with me EVERYWHERE I've gone so that I can have my smoothies for breakfast (which seems to keep my appetite in check for the rest of the day). OK, time to cut the cord (hey, get it? cord! ha ha!) I've given up calorie-counting and survived for a whole month and 6 days. I'm going to try to go without the smoothies for brekkie for 10 days or so. I just need to take a note from HEABers and have some healthy fat with breakfast and I think I'll be fine. Fingers, toes, paws and furry arms crossed that all goes well on that one! Eek, I'm a little scared but sooo relieved not to drag a zillion smoothie-related items with me. (No, Mr. TSA officer, it's not cocaine, it's xanthan gum- WHAT!?! You've never heard of XANTHAN gum?!)

So Possums, I will miss you all dearly, but I will be enjoying this time to just have some mayjuh R&R. Oh, and extra credit and MAJOR respect & props for anyone who can identify the ridiculously fab purple-clad lady (ahem, "lady") pictured at the top of the post.
TTFN Bleeps- I'll miss ya!!

Bon voyage dear Deb!!!!!!! And if you can't publish from the high seas....who cares, we love you and will see you when you get back! Enjoy your trip and dont worry about the blogosphere, we will miss you but ummm, totally understand you're doing way more fun stuff than blogging: you're gonna be on vacation!!!!
And congrats, major league style, to not bringing your blender or your XG or GG thru customs. You dont need any sniffer dogs thinking you're packing contraband. I wish you the best in your blenderless trip. I am going to schlep my Vita 5000 miles for my holiday trip I take every year. I'll be gone 3-4 weeks and feel I "need it". LOL Maybe you can talk me out of it!
ah yes like averie said, bon voyage! i am going to miss you dearly.. but from the looks of your flashback photos you will be LIVING IT UP! and i gotta say props on cutting the cord. i know how hard that is. seriously who would think something like a blender would matter so much? you will do just fabulous on finding yummy eats though, i am sure of it, i simply CANNOT WAIT for the recap when you get back. sigh, it is so far away!
BTW that maple vanilla butter is UNREAL! nom nom nom.
HAVE FUN, BE SAFE, LOVE YOU!
I can't believe you've gone that long without counting--that's HUGE. And big props for "winging it" with the food and the blender. That's always my biggest anxiety when traveling...terrorism? Nah. Swine flu? Nope. Will I be able to find Greek yogurt, avocados and organic produce? Eek!
Anyway, I don't know where you're "motoring" on the seas, but have a FABULOUS time. Sounds like an incredible opportunity for good times with great company, fun food and relaxation. Look forward to the guest bloggers, but mostly look forward to your return.
Bon voyage!
Have a great trip! And don't forget your mink! :)
I can't wait to hear and see all about it when you return.
Averie- Ha ha your vita mix might qualify for a 1K Member card like my little blender. He's over there sulking in the corner b/c he knows he's not going on the trip. He and Samantha are sulking together :-D
Janetha- Yah, the yummy eats- crazy good and quality food not to mention buffets up the wazoo. Might have to enforce a limit on the number of items- like 3 or 4 per plate. we'll see. Re. the PB- might want to sick it in the micro to soften- didn't love the look of it on your post- too dry.
Abby- HA HA, crackin' me up with that you're laughing in the face of swine flu, terrorism! Yah, for me it would be bubonic plague and SARS except right now it's brekkiephobia. I will go sans Greek yogurt for at least 6 days and 14 hours though but who's counting?
Erika, I also have my packed baby seal & Fox stoles and I plan to eat a lot of Chilean Sea bass :-) Kidding for those who don't know me!
Dame Edna and I wish you a safe and happy journey.
Cudos to you for breaking the blender cord, a huge breakthrough.
Enjoy with all your wonderful heart.
Yeesh! Vacations have always been the healthy-living breaker for me! Stay away from eggs benedict!
Rhoda! I bow to you as a sign of deep respect for identifying the woman I worship.
Andy- Yup those Bennies are a killer, as is the midnight chocolate buffet (Wish I was joking but alas, I am not)!!!
Hehe about the TSA officer ;) Not exactly my favorite people!
So excited for you and this trip--just seems like a fantastic time all around! Can't wait to meet you! Safe travels!
Vacations were always a pain (still a blast, but a pain) in my family- even the two night getaways- we packed enough stuff for like a month. We never went anywhere without vitamins, ice chests packed of healthy food, protein powder, and of course the Magic Bullet.. ;)
Better to be prepared I guess? But I'm sure you'll experience plenty of good, yummy, healthy food!
Have a wonderful trip Deb - I know you will. Gosh, I wish I was going with you - looks like a blast. I loved your dress in that photo with your dad. Beautiful.
Yes, healthy fats - they do the trick every time. I almost fainted when I read you weren't taking your blender, but I think it will be a nice break from smoothies. Maybe you'll discover a new favorite breakfast.
Crustless sammies...really, what is the point?!?
Lara- yay! We still need to decide where to meet!
Bekah- so impressed with your healthy travel eats!
Heabs- yeah, think I need to get a job at an English tea house so I can eat all the discarded crusts!
have a GREAT trip!!! It sounds like it will be amazing :)
I hope you have a fantastic trip Deb! I loved looking at your photos of your previous vacation. The people-watching ones were awesome... :) Can't wait to hear all about it upon your return!
