I used to claim that "I hate cats". The truth was that no cat had ever loved me. As a child, I did to cats what I did to dogs (we ALWAYS had dogs growing up)...run up to them at full speed, arms flailing, screaming with delight and expecting some real loving back. Uh, not so much with cats. They need some finessing. You need to do the animal equivalent of buy them a drink and dinner before they'll even CONSIDER giving you the time of day. And you need to move slow as molasses or they will run the other way and never come back.
I had just graduated from school and my boss asked me to "baby sit" his cats for a week... EEK! What was I supposed to do- say NO!? His cats were two stunning Maine Coons and they were sweet and loving . Basically, they were dogs dressed in cat suits, and for the first time I experienced "cat love". There was no turning back.
Within two weeks we adopted 1-year-old Charlotte and her newborn baby Samantha. That was 14 years ago. Sadly we lost Charlotte in January (I'll do a FBF on her another day- she was amazing). Today you get to meet the little cheeky monkey who has no idea that she's actually 14. She thinks she's about 6 weeks old. She gets into all sorts of trouble but is the biggest love bug you'll ever meet. She's a talker and runs to the door to greet guests. Did I mention that she's Toilet-Trained?
If you're not a cat-person and are unwilling to peek at the dark side, then you had better go and wrap up that huge Google-reader inbox of yours. For the rest of you cat lovers...you know who you are...have a look at Samantha over the years. She's the love muffin of my life.

Oh, your cat is really cute! Makes me want to have one too...but I live in a tiny apartment and a cat would probably be not too happy here^^
I love cats, they have so much personality and individuality. Thanks for sharing your photos!
Wow Deb you are an early bird! It's 7:30 here on the east coast and already you've put up a FBF post!
You have to know how much I loved looking at all the Samantha pictures. I gushed over all of them - she was such a tiny little kitten...just like Minnie! I wish they'd just stay that size. How funny that she loves sinks! Then again Louise used to get in the tub right after we took a shower.
Samantha did not look like a happy camper at the spa! Is she seriously toilet-trained?! Please share your secrets on that one!! :)
LOVE. THIS. POST. I claim to not be a cat person, but honestly, I think it's only because I have the same aloof, indifferent attitude the good ones have and it becomes a war of the divas (we both want attention only when we say so...hmmm.) Miss my cat (sometimes), as she's at my mom's.
Anyway, she looks amazing and exactly like my kind of cat. If it makes you (her) feel any better, our cat has been known to wear certain headgear at times, especially around the holidays. She only has one tooth (and pees crooked) so she doesn't have much of a defense to the costumes.
But I'm rambling...loved this post. Love your cat. Continue to love this blog.
Your baby - she's adorable Deb! My favorite were the sink pictures. Too cute.
Didn't know you were such the ar-tist. Maybe you can do a portrait of Einstein and Radley one of these days. I can pay you in Jay Robb travel sized packets. :)
I consider myself a "dog person" but I must admit your cat might convert me. So Cute! Really toilet trained? I have heard of people doing it! That so cool! But does she flush? Thanks for the cute pics. She certainly doesn't look her age!
I love your love for your pets! Deb that's awesome!!! I remember pre-child when we had a housefull of animals and they were my whole life, this post kinda brought me back to that and i miss them. Due to allergy issues and pets-acting-out-agaisnt-baby issues they have all been rehomed but your post makes me remember them all fondly :)
On lighter matters...your nut butters freakin hit the midnite spot last nite! PB drier and sooo peanutty...maple wetter and sooo mapley. I cant even pick a fave. Both are heavenly! I stirred both really well as you reminded me to, although getting drunk off the vanilla woulda been fine. And you know, you should taste my softserve. I am not kidding, I pour a good 2 oz of vanilla, Which is like half of a large size bottle in a batch. I do catch a buzz :) I'm a lightweight these days though. LOL
Cute cute cute!
And Deb, thank you so much for the stamps. They were such an awesome surprise. You really are a gem! I hope you're having a beautiful Friday, my dear!
Love,
Katie
Such a cute post. I am not really a cat person but I am just not really an animal person. I love other people's pets but I can't handle one more thing to take care of! :)
Btw, I stupidly brought the cinnamon almond butter to work today for use on an apple and have been 'sneaking' tastes all day long!
PLEASE do a post on how you toilet trained your cat! I've always wondered how it's done.
Samantha is adorable - I love the sink pics. Such a cat thing to do.
I had 3 cat babies in HS but when I graduated they had to live with my Mom :(
Hayley- if there is ONE advantage to Blogger, it's that I can "program" a post to be published any time in the future (so I'm really not awake at 3am posting FBF!!) So glad you liked the post- you KNOW I had you in mind for this one. I'm very envious of you and your little family- we've been wavering about having another "child" since we lost Charlotte, but so far we have decided against it. Could change!
Abby- HA...you are a human cat- I love it! Glad to know that we aren't the only evil owners to make our pets wear costumes. :-D
HEABS- arTIST- hardly! it was fun though!
Deb- yes she is trained but not to flush! :-)
Averie- yeah, sometimes human and animal children don't get along! PS Glad you liked the NBs. Feel free to tweak the PB to make it less dry- add some almond oil??
CCV- you're welcome- hope you can find use for them- if not, you can repurpose them to a nearby school :-)
Erika=not an animal person? really?
Low- I'll either post about it or email you directly :-) It wasn't hard but you need the patience of a SAINT!!
Deb you can post kitty pictures ANYTIME and I will be happy. They always bring a smile to my face! :) We didn't think Louise would accept any cat in our house - male/female, young/old but man has she really taken to this kitten. The other day we were trimming Minnie's nails and she was meowing and crying and Louise was going beserk trying to protect her. It was sad but sweet!!
I have been seriously indulging in the treats you sent me! I need to do a couple of new posts and I've already taken pics - I just need to upload them and write! I promise soon... :)
Ilona- welcome and thanks for stopping by and letting me share my Samantha!
Loooooved that post and while we have a dog, I can totally relate to the pics and LOL'd at the baby's first tooth. You beat us in that dept. but our dog does have his own "dress-up trunk".
Have a great weekend :-)
Totally cracked up at driving cat! "Toonces the Driving Cat" Saturday Night Live flashback.
She is an adorable queen.
My king cat, Dimitri, told me that, though she is very down to earth and kttenish, any girl kitty who goes in the toilet is definitely descended from Royalty.
Great post. Love to Samantha.
Ok, this is kind of unrelated to Samantha but it made me think of the mommy issue. You have kids?! I got that on your recent comment about having babies and I guess I didn't know that about you!
Hayley- it's always with you in mind that I post anything to do with Samantha :-)
Michelle- HA a whole dress up trunk!? I better step up my game!
Allie- Toonces= I totally forgot about that but YES flashback- hilarious!
Rhoda- you might be my only reader who has met the royal princess in person! And she loves you right back :-)
Lara- oops, did I say babies? Must have meant the feline kind because as far as I know we don't have any of the other ones around the casa. Just to be sure, I'll go check under the sofa :-D
Where does one get a shirt that says "My cat kicks ass?"
aww kitty :) this post totally made my day after working. She is adorable.!
