Flashback Friday: The Dad edition

Hey Bleeps (that's Blog Peeps) or perhaps I should call you my Blosse (Blog Posse). Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great Friday!

I can't thank you all enough for your sweet and insightful comments on yesterday's rather emotional post. I am a tad behind on my reading/commenting but I will get back to all of you as I have so much to say to those who reached out in such an amazing way.

In keeping with Janetha's fun Flashback Fridays, this week I'm pulling out some fave pics of me with my Daddy-o. He's a lot more than "just" a Dad- he's really my BFF and someone I would choose to hang out with even if we weren't related.

He's the kind of guy that everyone thinks is cool- no matter how old or young. Take for example, when I go out of town, my hubby hangs out at his casa- and it has nothing to do with the strippers or the booze (kidding!). In fact last month, the two of them went to see Cold Play together! How cool is THAT!?

Having had a successful career in writing and producing, he still writes, belongs to a book club and reads the newspaper from cover to cover every day. He bops around town in search of culture: theatrical productions, (concerts!) & movies. Just yesterday on a whim, he drove downtown to the Music Center and got in to see a Pulitzer-prize willing play on a last-minute cancellation. Pretty neat if you ask me.

But one of his best attributes is his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. Laughs abound when he's around (rhyme totally unintentional). Oh and if I should ever pun shamelessly, you can thank him... he passed the pun gene to me (and my brother) in his DNA.

We have grown quite a bit closer in recent years- partially because he moved to within about 5 minutes of us, and we hang out a lot. We go on hikes, out to lunch, to movies, to the 'Bucks for a cuppa...anything. Also, he's been battling some pretty serious health issues in recent years, and I've accompanied him to many doctors' appointments and treatments. It's ironic when misfortune brings people closer. But often, such is life. I consider myself lucky to have the luxury of spending so much quality time with him.

We do a lot of traveling together. In fact, Dad is the perfect travel companion...easy-going and game for adventure. In fact we are looking forward to a fabulous transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 in a few weeks- can't wait!!

Bonus: He happens to love smoothies, so we can officially call him SmoothieDad. :-)

Without further adieu, I present...Daddy-O... aka Marty...

Happy Birthday 2009 in Ojai, CA- he's a Yankee Doodle Dandy- July 4th

I've posted this photo from our recent day together in Malibu.

Actually, the above picture might be one of my all-time favorites of me. Why? Because I found it necessary to scream bloody murder as a gust of wind mussed my 'do.

I love this photo- it was taken at L'Aventure Winery in Paso Robles, CA. Some wine-tasting and a delish picnic...That's one happy guy!

I know that Dad is a regular reader/lurker (but a really nice one) so I'll just put it out there for him and all cyberspace to see...I HEART YOU!!!! Thanks for being the best Dad a gal could EVER ask for!!! <3

Aww, I love how you are taking FF to tribute to family :) That is a nice twist.
Hello to Smoothie Dad! He DOES just seem COOL. Writing and producing sounds so glamorous, too :)
THe picture of you two on the QE2...hehe...hope this doesn't offend you but it looks like you guys are wax figures for some reason! I think it's the way you're both positioned! Do you see what I mean? ;) Very cool that you got to go on it!

What can I say? I've never had a stable male presence in my life, so I think this is such an uplifting and touching post.

And P.S., you BOTH clean up nice :)

Deb-

Loved the pics of you and your Dad. He sounds like he's the Dad all of us SHOULD have had! It's wonderful that you are so close and can share adventures with him. Just in case you're lurking today. Hi Deb's Dad. Happy Friday!

Both of you clean up nicely Deb - you're gorgeous in every picture.

I love the relationship you share with your Dad. Even from reading your emails, I could always tell that you two are super close.

Can't believe they went to a Cold Play concert together. That is great! My dad has probably never even heard of them.

Thinny- yes we do look like we should be at Madame Tussaud- too much makeup perhaps?? I usually wear only mascara (I've even ditched the eyeliner in recent years!) so on the ship I tend to get a little "dolled up". hee hee.

VG- thanks. I know you're close with VeggieDad :-)

Deb (the "other" Deb!)- thank you for reading and saying Hi!

Charlotte- you are so right. I'm one lucky girl.

Janetha- glad you and your Dad are closer now. I find that relationships change over time- some stronger, some less so.

Low & HEABs...thanks!! :-)
