I am working on a little project (note to Seth and Seth followers: I really resisted putting quotation marks around the word little- and you'll see why). My project is to create a small cactus garden that is going to be located in a defunct fountain that measures about 6 feet wide. I thought, "oh how hard can it be??- get some bags of soil and throw some cacti in the ground!" Wrong. I needed rocks to raise the base, and for drainage. Last weekend, there was one disastrous day of trying to use cut-up styrofoam because I didn't have any rocks (please, please don't ask). Turns out someone happened to be getting rid of some rocks- SCORE!
So he delivered the rocks and I had to haul many of them in what seriously had to be a bucket weighing 80 pounds (hope my chiropractor isn't reading the blog), plus bags of soil and what seemed like a zillion cacti...back, forth, back, forth...ugh, sweat, prick.
Then as I placed the little cacti in the desired locations (as opposed to at Lowe's where I bought them), I read their tags "Will grow to 5-6 feet". Oh dear. I was hoping for more like 2-3. You're thinking that I should have read their little instruction manuals before buying them and of course you'd be 100% right! I'm hoping that my poor, novice gardening techniques will stunt their growth.
This little one has no Chlorophyll in the top and looks like he's wearing a hat... he's so cute :-)Edit to add: He DIED! RIP :-(

I love the idea of a cactus garden! And it sounds like the way I do stuff, I never plan, just do and hope it all works out!! :)
Btw, what kind of heart rate monitor do you use? Do you find it accurate for calories?
I loved the idea of a cactus garden too- til the cacti attacked me and it turned out to be way more expensive and time-consuming than I thought :-D. Actually, I might have an update on how it's doing as we're headed to the desert tonight- I hope everything didn't die :-D
I have a Polar F4 HRM and the only reason is because it was cheap and available at Target. I got several of them so that I could have one in the gym bag, one here, one there...and they are cheap. I can't say I'd recommend it though because for me, when something goes wrong, or even a battery needs changing I have to into the bowels of downtown Los Angeles. There's no other authorized Polar dealer in the area!! Crazy!!
Also, I never, ever trust the calories on HRMs or any machines. So what I do it input an artificially low weight- 101 to be exact- hee hee, yeah maybe when I was 7 years old :-D
whoa that's cool! i might even be able to keep THEM alive, because all my other plants die ;-)
i really really like your blog, and your story could be mine...
i'll be definitely coming back!!!
