My garden, my gym.

No gym for me today- I strapped on my heart rate monitor, dawned gardening gloves and grabbed my tweezers. The latter, not only for emergency grooming, but also to remove the cactus needles (I call them daggers, fangs & claws) from random parts of my body. The boy at Lowe's was sadly mistaken when he said that impaled cactus daggers are removable by tape. I learned the hard way.

Today, I did not haul around 80-pound pails of rocks like yesterday, but worked steadily- 3 hrs 20 minutes and burned (woot woot) 550 cals :-) Love it when exercise just doesn't seem like work. It felt nice to take a break from the gym. Though I must admit that my Body Combat Class paid off today when I found myself practicing a "chop" maneuver on a dead cactus limb. Obviously rigor mortis had set in because literally sweat was flying in every direction as I hacked away at that sucker with a random tool I found in the shed. The sun wasn't even up yet so I couldn't blame the heat!!

Honestly, I don't hold out much hope for my little cactus garden. Even after a single day, one of the little ones was discolored. I found myself saying things to him like "C'mon man! So what if it's 117 degrees- you're a freakin' cactus!" (Is it wrong to yell at plants?) Then I felt guilty because I noticed that the evil sprinkler was shooting water in the wrong direction...directly onto him (think: Wicked Witch of the West, melting). I adjusted the sprinkler and crossed my fingers. We'll see if any of the little guys will be standing in a few weeks!
